Legal Light is an iPhone app that recommends hunting gear based on a short questionnaire and tracks prices on items you choose to watch. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it.
We have tried to keep this short and readable. If something is unclear, email us at support@legallightapp.com.
The short version. We collect the minimum needed to run your account and your watchlist. We do not use analytics, we do not run ads, we do not track your location, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Account information. When you create an account we store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password. We never store your password itself. If you use Sign in with Apple, we store the anonymous identifier Apple gives us instead, plus the email address Apple shares with us. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email" option, we only ever receive their private relay address, not your real one.
Your hunt profiles. The answers you give in the questionnaire, covering things like the species you hunt, terrain, conditions, fit, the gear you need and your budget, along with a name for each profile. We use these to score gear against how you hunt. The fit answer is used only to filter gear sizing.
Your watchlist. Which products you are tracking and the discount threshold you set for each one. We use these to work out when to alert you.
A notification token, if you allow notifications. When you turn on price alerts, your phone gives us a token that lets us send a notification to that device. We store it against your account. It is only used to deliver the price alerts you asked for. If you say no to notifications, we never receive one. If you turn notifications off later in your iPhone settings, the alerts stop immediately, and we clear the token the next time we try to send you one.
That is the complete list.
We use it to run the service: to sign you in, to generate your gear recommendations, to track prices on your watchlist, and to tell you when something you are watching drops below your threshold. We also use your email address to reply if you contact us.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build a profile of you for anyone else's benefit.
We keep this list as short as we can.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
When you tap through to buy something, you leave Legal Light and land on the retailer's own website. We do not send them your account details. Once you are on their site, their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Legal Light may join retailer affiliate programs in the future. If we do, we may earn a commission when you buy through a link in the app, at no extra cost to you. It would not change which products we recommend or how they are ranked.
Passwords are stored using bcrypt hashing, so we cannot read them. Traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Your login token is held in your device's secure storage, which on iPhone is the system keychain.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise, but we do not collect data we do not need, which is the most reliable protection there is.
We keep your account information, hunt profiles and watchlist for as long as your account exists. Your notification token is removed when you sign out, when you delete your account, or when your phone stops accepting notifications and we find out on the next send. Price history for products is not personal information and is kept as part of the catalogue.
You can delete your account inside the app. Go to the Profile tab, scroll to the Danger zone at the bottom, and tap Delete account. It asks you to confirm first. This removes your account, your hunt profiles, your watchlist and your notification token straight away, and it cannot be undone.
If you would rather we did it, email support@legallightapp.com from the address on your account. We may keep basic records of the request itself where we are required to.
Legal Light is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
You can edit or delete your hunt profiles and watchlist items inside the app at any time. You can ask us for a copy of what we hold on you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@legallightapp.com. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information, and we will honour those requests.
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant we will tell you in the app.
